Temples and Hinduism

As you travel around India, you see a lot of religions. 80% of the Indian population are Hindu’s. In spite of being ruled by the Mughal Muslim rulers for 400 years and the British Christian rulers for around 200 years, Hinduism continues to survive in India. One of the reason they say that Hinduism survived in India is because it is an all-encompassing religion and is very accepting of other religions.

Hindu beliefs include rebirth, karma, and death. There are over a billion Hindu's all around the world. It is considered to be one of the oldest religion in the world, going back a 1000 years before Christ.

There are a lot of temples all around India and every one of them has a story to tell about the deity that is worshipped in the temple and the reason the temple was built. During my visit to India I visited a few temples.

Above is a picture of Hindu priests making preperations for the religious ceremony, which is called a "puja".

Above is a picture of a Hindu priest giving a sermon very similar to a pastor in a church.
